Where your people already are
These are the everyday places where your kind of people already gather - classes, clubs, groups and regular nights that run every week whether you turn up or not.
None of these are billed as singles events - though plenty of single people turn up to them, for exactly the reason you're here. The difference is that nobody arrives with dating as the agenda, so there's no pressure and nothing to be rejected from. You're just a small group of like-minded people learning to throw a pot or roll fresh pasta, absorbed in the thing itself, comparing what you've made and building a memory together. That's how connection actually forms: sideways, out of a shared experience - and because you keep seeing the same faces, it grows at its own pace.
It's slower, and nobody wears a badge saying they're single. But if nothing romantic happens, you still spent your week doing something you love, with people you like. Nothing is wasted.
If you'd rather skip the wait
Everyone in these rooms is single and knows it. Ranked for you, honestly.
Four things nobody tells you
- Go four times before you judge it. Almost nothing works on the first visit. The first time you're just the new person. By the fourth, you're a regular - and regulars get talked to.
- Arrive ten minutes early, not fashionably late. Early, the room is small and quiet and easy to talk in. Late, everyone's already in a huddle.
- Have one question ready. Not a line - a question. "What made you come to this one?" works everywhere, every time, and you'll actually want to hear the answer.
- Leave before you want to. Ending on a high, with a reason to come back, beats staying until the awkward end.
Your people are out there.
Come and meet them. We'll send you an invitation the moment the next event near you is open.
Get event invitationsHow this list was made. We have been to most of the well-known operators ourselves, in Melbourne, as paying guests. Where we have not tried something, or where our experience of it is years out of date, we say so plainly on its card. We have not been to every event in the country, and we would not pretend to have: there are good people running singles nights in towns all over Australia through local Facebook groups, and the only way to find yours is to go looking. We have told you how. Nobody paid to be included and there are no referral fees or affiliate arrangements. If that ever changes, it will say so right here. Where we describe what a night is like, that is our experience of it, and yours may differ. Clubs, classes, prices and venues change, so search for the current one near you before you head out.
